Being a Learning Coach is not a job for the weak. It is a job for the brave, dedicated, determined, and loving person. As 2nd grade teachers we have the utmost respect for you as the Learning Coach. We want to support you in every way possible.
Here are a few times: Be sure to have a schedule. Make the schedule visual and understood by your student. Be flexible at 1st until you find something that fits your family.

Pick a schedule that will work for you and your student. You can buy these pocket charts on amazon and make your own schedule cards to put in them. Maybe consider having your student turn the card over as the task is complete. It is always best to let your student know what is to be expected and to be flexible.
Be sure to talk to your child and how school is their job. It is an important job. What are the real life consequences of not finishing your job? Do you have consequences in your house for when your student does not do his/her work?
Positive Reinforcement
Consider how you can motivate your student to make wise choices. Above is picture of a jar that you can fill with marbles, pom pom balls etc. The jar starts out empty. Talk to your student and choose an award. Every time your child makes a wise choice reward him/her with a marble for the jar. Then when the jar is full you will need a reward to celebrate!
Use this punch card...if you don't have a hole punch you can have student X out each number. You must 1st set a reward for when your student gets to 20. Then every time your student completes a lesson, is kind for 3 hours, completes a days lesson, whatever you want the goal to be for each circle then X off a circle or hole punch it. When the student reaches 20 positive behavior there should be a big reward. Something the student really wants to earn. Examples: TV time, game time, free 10 minute recess, lunch out with dad, $1.
