Welcome to second grade at MVCA!
The purpose of this page is to help you with getting on board!
It can be challenging coming to us after the beginning of the year. Use this website and resources to help you feel more comfortable.
1. As you log into the Online School (OLS), make sure to complete the Online Learning K-8 course before completing ANY other lessons. This will give you a lot of direction and information about how the OLS works!
2. For the courses below, you will follow the Daily Plan starting in Unit 1:
3. For the courses listed below, you will need to check out the weekly Newsletter that is sent out in email each Friday to see what Unit you should start working in when you sign into the OLS. You will get one this Friday and that will be the lessons you will start with next Monday.
The current lessons are also shown on the main page of this website and are updated each Friday.
4. For Math, Science, and Writing Skills you will want to make sure that your student understands any units we have covered so far before you joined us. To do so please have your student try the following unit assessments. If they pass you will email me and I will mark the unit as complete. If they do not pass please take time to reteach only the areas that they did not get right and then retake the unit assessment. This will help make sure your student does not miss any important standards without requiring them to go through all of the lessons (unless they need to.)
Math: Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Unit 5, Unit 6, Unit 7
Science: Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 7

5. For Reading: Mark Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Unit 5, Unit 8 (lessons 1-4 and 7-11 only,) Unit 9, Unit 10 Lessons 1-6, Unit 11, Unit 12 Lessons 1-5, Unit 13, Unit 16, Unit 17 as complete. (Your student will start where we are at and will not do these Units/lessons.) **** If you prefer your student does these units it would be best to do them at the end of the year when we have time to do anything not yet completed.
(See Directions on how to mark lessons complete at the bottom of this page)
6. Optional Lessons in all courses:
These are optional! You may skip them. BUT if you do you must then do the next, non-optional lesson that day. For example. If lesson 1 is optional and you skip it you must then find lesson 2 and do it that day instead. The OLS automatically adjusts lessons forward/backward. If you miss a lesson/day of lessons you will find those lessons will appear now on the next day they would normally show. For example, if you do not do Vocabulary today, today's Vocabulary lesson will be on tomorrow's plan. You are essentially behind a lesson until you make one up. (See Directions on how to skip lessons at the bottom of this page)
7. Suggestion:
Each week print off or Jot down your weekly plan (Lessons) at the beginning of the week so that you have it in case you get off track.
8. Your teacher will contact you soon about taking the NWEA survey assessment as well as Dibels. Please make sure you attend the time scheduled for you to do these as they will help decide what groups you are in for live sessions. Students need to do these independently without help so that we can best support their needs. This includes not reading the assessment for them
9. You will soon receive information about Prodigy (required supplemental math program) and Raz kids (Required supplemental reading program.) For prodigy you will need to create your free account following the directions you receive. For Raz kids you will be given an account and directions will come on how to log in to it. For Raz kids we require 20 minutes/day 5 days per week. For Prodigy we have not yet assigned a requirement of time but ask that you log in and work a few times/week.
10. Lastly, your Live Class Connect sessions will begin showing up on your Plan soon. Make sure you come to those classes, as they are required.
Let your Homeroom teacher know if you have any questions about completing your OLS lessons after you have read through this web page.
